*** GREENCAPS HAVE FINISHED FOR THE YEAR***

NIPPERS – On Sunday, the Urunga hosted North Beach at the Clayton’s Carnival at Hungry Head beach.  It started out a cold and windy morning but once the sun came out and the wind died down it was quite a nice beach day.  The surf was very challenging
though and we would like to congratulate each and every one of those Nippers
for bravely getting in and having a go.  There are many people to thank and firstly we would like to thank the North Beach club for coming over the river and making it a great day.  We would also like to thank Linq and Oliver for working water safety in the duck and not ending up in the brine underneath a large set.  Thank you to those parents who helped out on the BBQ, and those who did water safety and  the wonderful dad Peter who quietly took all the dirty dishes upstairs and washed them.  And finally, all the people who turned up on Saturday afternoon to clean up the beach, it is so heartening to know that our club is in such great hands for the future.   Next Sunday will be the Junior’s break-up day for all except Greencaps who finished up last Sunday.  Sunday 1st April we will be holding
the club’s Presentation at the Urunga Golf Club from 3pm.  There will be a cost for this event as we will be having a Chinese buffet meal.  More info as soon as we finalise catering numbers.

URUNGA BOWLING CLUB RAFFLE.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with the Urunga Bowling Club raffle.  You will
only be required about once a season if we get enough people.  The raffle is run from approx. 6.30pm to 7.30pm on a Friday night.  The dates left for this year are 30 March, 25 May, 29 June, 24 August and 26 October.

When you arrive you speak with the bar staff who will give you a box with all the tickets and a note book to record starting and finishing numbers.  You then wait until
the bowling club raffle is over before starting to sell the club raffle.  Tickets are sold for $2 per strip or $5 per page but it will be up to you.  I normally give them a single strip bonus if they buy the full sheet.  After selling the raffle tickets report back to the bar staff with the starting and finishing numbers so that they can set the machine, draw the raffle and announce the winner.  The club provides the raffle prize of either a meat tray or a voucher and we give them $50 from the raffle money to cover costs.  Give the bar staff all monies and they will count it and give it back to you I, notes.  You hand over the $50 and give the rest of the raffle takings to Megan Pengelly club Treasurer, at the next Nippers day.

NIPPERS – Last Sunday at the Junior Branch Championships, Brandon and Naomi Howe represented our club in the North Coast Branch, Junior Surf Life Saver of the Year awards.  Both of them were stand outs within the field and should be very proud of themselves.  Naomi, however came through as the winner within the girls section and will head off in April to a Development Camp at Collaroy.  Here she will be competing as the Branch representative in the State Junior Surf Life Saver of the Year awards as well as learning leadership skills.  Congratulations Naomi and good luck.  Hopefully Nom can follow in the footsteps of Jack Chaffey who won this prestigious award in 2007.

No news yet  about the Junior Branch Championships held at Sawtell last Sunday – results  next week.  Congratulations to all  competitors who got in and had a go and a huge thank you to all the parents  that helped out.  Greencaps enjoyed  having the beach to themselves last Sunday while the big kids were off  competing.  It was great to finally have  an ocean clean enough and safe enough so that they could practice their surf
skills.  Luke Pengelly and Marley Walters  impressed everybody with their body surfing skills while everybody else had a  go at under and over the waves.  Next  week we will have a number of our Age Managers away, competing at the Senior  Branch Championships.  This will mean  that some groups will have to be combined and events may be limited.  All parental help gratefully received.
