URUNGA SLSC NEWS
Our Senior and Masters teams competed at the Branch Championships at Sawtell on Sunday and it would appear they did themselves and their club very proud. Urunga had 15 competitors and many of them received firsts and second placings. The Masters team may even be looking at a first or second place overall. The only results I have at this stage are
that Garry Howe and Ty Cook picked up a first place in the Board Rescue. Congratulations to all our competitors. Results next week.
This week Corey Underhill will be leaving us and heading off into the big, wide world. We would like to wish him luck with his new endeavours. Go Army! Also congratulations to all our young members who were outstanding in their school swimming carnivals and are now heading off to Zone. Keep swimming those laps and staying healthy – the older members need you.
PATROLS – Garry Howe’s band of merry clubbies is on the beach this Sunday with a new Bronzie, Waylln Turner. Welcome Waylln, hope you enjoy your first patrol. Patrol Six - Garry Howe Captain, Linq Griffiths VC, Denis Forbes Radio, Jim Kerr, Richard Pengelly, Oliver Maher, Waylln Turner, Naomi and Brandon Howe and Rachel Erlandsen.
PICK THE JOKER – Bernie Grogan had his chance at the Joker this week but unfortunately for him chose #36 which was the 6 spades. Bernie is recovering from a very nasty bout of ‘eating chicken while camping’ and has spent a couple of weeks in hospital. He has still managed to get his weekly tickets and support our club. Get well soon Bernie. Sunday 26th February, the Jackpot rises to $1500 and Tracy Neaves and Vicky Ford are on
Joker duty.
SOCIAL SCENE – There are a few social events coming up. The OVH has been
booked for Saturday 21 April for a celebration of the 25th anniversary of our Club House. It will be by invitation only and open to current members. Please ensure you reserve a seat and RSVP Loz. All past committee members who are interested in attending can contact Laurie Renshall on 0427553202. Sponsors Breakfast will be held on Sunday 29th April. Also on 31st March, at the surf club, we will be enjoying an evening with local singer and song writer Sandra Clark. Sandra is trying to raise funds so that she can record her second album. Her first album was ‘inspired’ by the traumatic death of her husband, who died of a brain tumour at 47 yrs of age, leaving her with three children, one of whom is a Greencap with our club. She is a great story teller and is very up front about how she coped or didn’t cope with her grief. Sandra will be accompanied by Catherine Campbell on frame drum, tambourine, bells, shakers and other interesting instruments. Please keep these dates free and support your club by attending.
NIPPERS – A huge thank you to all those parents who helped out at the Bellingen Markets last Saturday. We had a very successful day and the bucket runeth over. The winner of the raffle run that day was Deb Crighton. Don’t forget that there is a Nippers meeting this Sunday after we have finished on the beach. This will be a very important
meeting so we need as many parents as possible to stay back and get involved. We will be having a sausage sizzle to help get us through the afternoon. Finally, we hope those Nippers stung by bluebottles last weekend are on the mend.
