HOW TO JOIN

 

To join our club as a Surf Life Saver, you will first need to have completed a Bronze Medallion.  This can be organised through any surf life saving club.  The Bronze Medallion pre-requisites are: -

  • Be a minimum of 15 years old on the date of final assessment.
  • Have completed a 400 metre swim in nine minutes or less, in a swimming pool prior to any training starts in the surf.

After having succesfully completed the 400 metre swim you must participate in a weekly Bronze group where you will learn: -

  • Safety and Wellbeing
  • Surf Awareness Skills
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • First Aid
  • Resuscitation
  • Basic Oxygen
  • Communications
  • Radio Communications
  • Rescue Techniques
  • Carries and Supports
  • Patrols

Candidates must, at the end of the course, satisfy the assessors that they are competent in all learning outcomes by

  • Written or oral assessment
  • Performance of skills
  • Simulation of rescue scenarios

 

Other ways of becoming involved in our club are to assist with the Nippers.  Parents are always encouraged to complete their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) which enables them to assist with water safety on Nipper days and at surf carnivals and participate in Patrols on a limited basis.

Pre-requisites of the SRC are: -

  • Be a minimum of 13 years old on the date of the final assessment
  • Have completed a 200 metre swim in five minutes or less, in a swimming pool

After having succesfully completed the 200 metre swim you must participate in a weekly group where you will learn: -

  • Safety and Wellbeing
  • Surf Awareness and Skills
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Basic First Aid
  • Resuscitation
  • Basic Oxygen (only for candidates 14 yrs and over)
  • Communications
  • Rescue Techniqes
  • Patrols
